Factors that are considered for Cut grading are

*Brightness: Internal and external light reflected from a diamond

*Fire: The scattering of white light into all the prism of colors

*Scintillation: The type of sparkle a diamond produces, and the pattern of light and dark areas caused by reflections.

A cut is only a man-made work on a diamond that unleashes its brilliance. The cut makes the light enter the diamond and exit through the same patch reflecting the light in the eyes of the viewer.
Diamonds are well-known for their ability to transmit light and sparkle but a diamond’s cut grade is really about how well a diamond’s facets interact with light. A cut can give a specific form and spectacular view to a diamond like oval, round, marquise and square.
Only high-skilled artists and craftsman have the precision to cut a diamond in such a way that the proportions, symmetry and polish deliver the brilliance light only possible in a diamond.
The cut is not only crucial to the beauty of the stone but even the value and is very difficult to analyse and comprehend. To determine the cut grade, our Geological Institute of India has created a Diamond Cut Grading metric that evaluates the diamond’s facets and how it interacts to create visual effects.

Factors that are considered for Cut grading are

  • Brightness: Internal and external light reflected from a diamond
  • Fire: The scattering of white light into all the prism of colors
  • Scintillation: The type of sparkle a diamond produces, and the pattern of light and dark areas caused by reflections.

GII’s diamond cut grade considers the design and craftsmanship of the diamond, its weight relative to its diameter, its girdle thickness, the symmetry of its facet arrangement, and the quality of polish on those facets.
The GII Diamond Cut Scale for standard round brilliant diamonds contains 5 grades ranging from Excellent to Poor that balances between Brilliance and Dispersion.
